With the recognition that most patients prefer to be able to discuss lab results during their visit coupled with the additional work follow up work that is generated when labs are done after the visit, Siamak proposed implementing protocols across all primary care offices at MGH for the MA, or appropriate clinical staff, to request labs for patients prior to their visits so results are available to the provider at that time of the visit. Having lab results to review with the patient during the visit will save after visit follow-up.
