THE CHALLENGE
Recalling complex protocols under pressure
Clinicians make high-stakes decisions under time pressure, often needing to recall complex protocols in the moment they matter most. Best-practice guidance exists, but not always in a form that's instantly usable at the bedside — leaving a gap between evidence-based protocols and real-time care.
WHAT HTL DID
Building decision support for emergency care
HTL designs, builds, and validates digital clinical decision support tools that bring evidence-based guidance directly to the point of care — translating dense clinical guidelines into fast, usable resources clinicians can rely on in the moment. This work spans several tools and partnerships.
AREAS OF WORK
Decision support across the globe
ACLS
The American Heart Association's official Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support reference, co-created with HTL — putting resuscitation algorithms directly in clinicians' hands during cardiac emergencies. With a global footprint of over 60,000 active clinician subscribers across 210+ countries and 13,000+ cities, and more than 1,000 clinicians using it every day, AHA ACLS has transformed how clinicians approach advanced cardiac life support.
PALS
The AHA's official Pediatric Advanced Life Support platform, built alongside ACLS to extend fast, bedside decision support to pediatric emergencies. With nearly 11,000 active clinician subscribers across 180+ countries and 7,300+ cities, and 175+ clinicians using it daily, AHA PALS is changing how clinicians deliver pediatric advanced life support — and growing every month.
Avo MD
A collaboration with AvoMD to digitize HTL's evidence-based rapid-response algorithms — covering tachycardia, bradycardia, hypotension, hypoxia, and altered mental status — onto AvoMD's clinical decision support platform. The goal is to give rapid response teams efficient, in-workflow guidance during high-pressure inpatient emergencies, with the algorithms available for other health systems to adopt.
THE OUTCOME
Guidance in tens of thousands of hands
HTL's clinical decision support tools now reach more than 70,000 active clinician subscribers across 200+ countries, with well over a thousand clinicians relying on them at the bedside every day. By translating evidence-based protocols into fast, in-workflow guidance, these tools help reduce the variability in emergency care that comes from differences in training and experience — bringing consistent, high-quality decision support to the most cognitively demanding moments in medicine.
